Trumpeter-bandleader Josh Lawrence leads a quintet featuring acclaimed pianist Orrin Evans through a program celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month. The concert is part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts and will be staged at the Kimmel Center Plaza April 11, 5-7 PM.
Lawrence is a University of the Arts graduate who has recently returned to Philadelphia after building his career in New York and Europe. His newest album Roots has been garnering rave reviews and his tours are establishing him as a bright new star on the international stage. A current engagement with Evans’ band introduced Lawrence to the pianist and his music.

Hot House Magazine has described Orrin Evans as “the clear-cut best pianist of his time”. He is at the forefront of the Philadelphia and New York jazz scenes and has worked to bring them closer as illustrated on his new album Captain Black Big Band.
The two will be joined by saxophonist Mike Cemprola, bassist Micah Jones and drummer Michael De Castro for an evening of blues, bebop and soulful jazz.
