In a city blossoming with emerging talent, Fresh Cut offers three promising Philly-based jazz musicians an opportunity to collaborate, create and debut new works for the first time as collective leaders. Ten of the finest local emerging musicians will rehearse and perform the newly composed and arranged works.

After 39 years of presenting jazz, this summer Bride music curator Lenny Seidman decided to take stock of Jazz on Vine – the artists, the accolades, the aesthetic approach and curatorial focus. Jazz on Vine is the longest continuing jazz series in Philadelphia. Check. The Bride’s stage has seen the likes of nearly every “best new” award-winning name in modern jazz spanning nearly four decades. Check.  Marked by two ASCAP award for “Best Adventurous Music” the series has progressively grown global featuring trailblazers who have made authentic cultural contributions to the growth of the genre such as Rudresh Mahanthappa and Francisco Mela. Check. The series has recently seen the return of Grammy-winning giants Dave Holland and Steven Bernstein. Check. Fresh Cut from the Vine is Seidman’s answer to the question what’s next/new for Jazz on Vine and for jazz in Philadelphia. He could have booked two musician-composers for a nice double bill debut, but instead Seidman surfaced the idea to offer three top emerging local ensemble leader-composers the opportunity to work together collectively as leaders to create fresh compositions for a large ensemble of musicians from Philly. Yet another chapter of jazz at the Bride, is in the making. Don’t miss the chance to dig it!
